Obituary of Barrie Winnard

Barrie died suddenly at Chesterfield Royal Hospital on 6th April 2020 aged 73 years after contracting Coronavirus.

Barrie was active in the BCS from 1995 when he started working at Moorfields Eye Hospital as Performance and Information Manager until he retired in 2011 and returned to live in Derbyshire.

He became a Member of the BCS in December 1995, a Chartered Member in May 2004 and then a Chartered Fellow in July 2006.

While in the BCS Barrie was involved with the Health Informatics (London and South East) Specialist Group.  He was Treasurer for a while and then Chairman.  Within his roles he worked with the Specialist Group team organising events including arranging for guest speakers to talk about topical issues.  He really enjoyed what he did with the BCS, valued the network of professionals he met and found the events and the talks by guest speakers extremely useful.  He was very proud to become a member of the BCS and especially so when he became a Fellow.

After retirement Barrie still maintained his membership of the BCS until his death as he was always keen to know about the developments and progress in Information Technology especially within the Healthcare setting.

Barrie leaves behind his wife Linda whom he had been married to for 43 years.  He also leaves behind his 2 children Claire and Andrew.

The funeral took place at Chesterfield Crematorium on 27th April 2020.
